Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

You are a one-of-a-kind person. You are truly unique. There is nobody in this world that is exactly like you. Everything that makes you who you are is unique and worth celebrating and loving. In order to truly appreciate who you are and what makes you special, you have to stop comparing yourself to other people. This applies to both your “personal life” and your “professional life.” So what if you’re not just like Sally, or Jane, or Lisa? Even if they are rock stars in your industry, you are valuable to your clients .. and that’s what matters.

“You’ve got to treat yourself like Number One .. do you need to be reminded?” –KISS

It’s only natural to want to know how we compare to others, to see how we measure up. This is especially true if we feel like they are better than us in some way. However, this is not a wise way to spend time because no two people are alike so nobody can really compare to another person. What works for me, may or may not, work for you.

While it’s easier to look at others and say we are deficient in some way because they are better than us, it is more valuable to look at ourselves and take responsibility for our actions and how they’ve gotten us where we are today. We all have different gifts and talents and we all have a purpose in this life. Your life’s purpose is going to be different than your neighbors, your colleagues, your friends, your siblings, and your family .. and that’s okay.

Just because you think you should be living the same way they do, or have the same things they do, doesn’t mean it’s true. So in comparing our lives to the lives of others, we are wasting our time. We have no idea what their purpose is in life and what they are supposed to be doing. Just focus on yourself, you’ll be much happier.

If we can instead accept ourselves for who we are and what makes us different, we will be much happier. Stop comparing your life and experiences with that of others, we are all made to go through different things. Those things help to shape us and mold us in to the people we are today.

By letting go of how you think you will compare against other people, you will be able to focus on your life and be much happier. Give it a try and see how much better you feel.
